a series of photographs shot in late 2007.

the images are of my mother's and grandmother's home, both situated in shropshire, uk.

i wanted to capture the beauty of both their homes in a visual form. They hold this distinct character that you do not often see in modern day homes.

i grew up in shropshire. from my experience it is a county that is very set in it's own ways. you always bump into the same people, you shop at the same store, you say hello to strangers on your morning walk through the park. it is all very old fashioned.

i have lived in cities for the past five years. four of those in leeds, and one in birmingham. from mainly living in student housing and in fairly central areas, i have missed out on all the beauty that lies in my families homes back in shropshire. i have moved house five times in five years, and they all look and feel the same; laminate flooring, wooden blinds, chrome, white walls, etc.

Shortly after taking these photographs, my grandmother was moved to a home. it was foreseeable. so i created these images as a memory. for my grandmother, and also for my family and myself.

in an ever developing britain, where every piece of available land seems to be used up for a new housing estate or supermarket, i realise that now my grandmother doesn't own the house, it will most likely be bought by some property developer and therefore stripped of it's beauty.

i would like to return to the house in the near future, to see if the character still remains.
